Oregon Park is committed to offering various opportunities for our families who call OP their baseball home. In addition to our Fall and Spring Recreational baseball programs, in the appropriate age groups, we also offer Travel Teams, Summer All-Star Teams as well as Recreational In-Park All-Star opportunities.

We would like to share more information specifically regarding our Summer All-Star Teams (Sharks and Piranhas), as tryouts for these teams will be occurring during the month of March. This is a lot of information, but please read carefully as it will answer many of your questions.

We will have open tryouts in each age group between 6u and 12u. Any parent who is willing to make both the time and financial commitment to a Summer All-Star team is invited to sign their player up to participate in these tryouts. Each age group will hold a combined tryout for the Sharks and Piranhas, and a player may only register in the age group in which they are currently competing.

Important points to consider:

Most age groups will have 2 teams. The Sharks are the A team and the Piranhas are the B team. Some age groups will have a C team.

The Head Coaches for the teams are:

6U Sharks - Erik Paz

6U Piranhas - Jon Barker

6U C Team - Landon Woods

7U Sharks - Mark Leszczynski

7U Piranhas - Mitch Pratt

8U Sharks - Mike Laguitan

8U Piranhas - Justin Carr

9U Sharks - Raymond Phillips

9U Piranhas - Kamy Nikkhah

9U C Team - Jonathan Hayworth

10U Sharks - Matt Henson

10U Piranhas - Randall Mason

11U Sharks - Bryan Poole

11U Piranhas - Matt Carlton

12U Sharks - Eric Ahern

12U Piranhas - Stephen Burton

All Star Sharks/Piranhas/C teams play in a number of weekend tournaments throughout the summer in the greater Atlanta area. Additionally, these teams may choose to continue to play throughout the Fall through our All-Star Extension Program (ASE).

Players should expect to play in 5-8 weekend tournaments at parks outside of OP during the summer. Additionally players should expect to have one practice per week starting in April during the rec season, and two practices per week once the rec tournament concludes.

All Star tryouts will be held on the respective age group’s home field on Sunday, March 20th. (Times set by age group.)

Parents should be prepared that a number of players may be asked to return to participate in an additional workout in the week following the initial tryout.

Players will be evaluated during the tryout by current Spring OP Coaches from each respective age group who do not have players of their own trying out. All Star Head Coaches will facilitate and observe during tryouts but will not be part of the scoring and ranking process.

The tryouts are just one part of the overall team selection process. All Star coaches have been observing players as they compete in games with their Rec Teams this spring.

Although we have many talented baseball players at our park, only 11 or 12 players will be selected for each All Star team. So please understand that selecting players for an All Star team is a very difficult process and our All Star coaches will be doing their very best to fully evaluate players and put together the best possible team to represent Oregon Park.

The All Star coaches have final discretion to pick players that they think will form the best possible team.

All Star Sharks/Piranhas Financial Commitment:
$600 (Paid in two parts $325 and $275)

An OP fee of $325 per player will be paid through the OP website. This fee covers 2 full uniforms, batting helmet, personalized bat bag, and insurance required by Dizzy Dean.

The balance of $275 will be paid directly to the Head Coach/Team Bank and is the start of building the team’s budget for the Summer Season. It helps cover tournament fees and other costs for the team.

All Star Teams will fundraise during the season to secure additional funds needed to support the team’s financial needs, and all families on the team are expected to participate in these activities. Oregon Park Day in April is a fun day for OP Families to enjoy activities and support fundraising All Star Teams by purchasing items that teams are selling!

As All Star players and their families are out and about in the Greater Atlanta area, they are representing our park! It is an expectation that every coach, parent and player representing OP handle themselves in a responsible and appropriate manner at all times.

As mentioned earlier, in addition to our Sharks and Piranhas All Star teams, we expect to again offer our recreational In Park All Star program this summer. That program typically lasts 4-5 weeks, is a much lower time and financial commitment, and takes place exclusively at Oregon Park (no travel to other parks). If you are looking for a more “relaxed” All Star experience, that might be something for your family to consider. More information to come on the In Park All Star program.
